According to WHO (World Health Organization), depression is currently the leading cause of disability globally. It is estimated that 350 million people in the world could suffer from depression and that its cost amounts to 820 billion euros per year.

The WHO reports that the diagnosis of depression has increased by 50% in recent years, leading to the classification of depression as "the epidemic of the 21st century".

Unlike other psychological terms and disorders, depression is a very familiar concept. But this is dangerous, as many people misunderstand it, and apart from stigmatizing depression, they see it as a failure, a weakness of character in the person suffering from it.

If WHO labels depression as an epidemic, it seems logical to think that someone close to us will go through this disease at some point in our lives.

“Depression is being sad when everything in your life is going well” — Kevin Bréel.

What can we do when a close person suffers from depression:

The effect that a depressive person usually produces on others, especially with which the subject does not have a strong bond, is rejection.
