The ‘No Fap September’ begins; where does this trend come from?

No Fap September, and any other similar expression that includes another month, start the first day (in this case, September 1), and consists of a challenge in which male participants refrain from masturbating (the action is also known as “fap” in English slang) for a whole month, although they can still behave sex.

This trend is exclusive to the West, but it has become so popular that it must be present in eastern lands. While little is known about its origin, it emerged on Reddit’s popular social network, specifically from a currently archived research report.

In March 2003, four researchers from Zhejiang University, Jiang M., Xin J. and Zou Q., and Shen JW., published a research report entitled “A Research on the Relationship between Ejaculation and Serum Testosterone Level in Men.” The research project consisted of 28 volunteers who were tested. The project results suggested that “on the seventh day of withdrawal, however, there was a clear peak of serum testosterone reaching 145.7% of the baseline.”

In essence, the trend of “September Without Fap” is really for men to regain their regular testosterone levels through deprivation of self-satisfaction, and although it is impossible to know how many of those who make the promise on the first day keep it, what is certain is that it is…
