What Is Freedom?

Freedom is a concept, a right, or an idea? Alternatively, perhaps it is omnipotence.

During the 18th to the 20th century, two philosophical currents developed, which within their broad themes of analysis include freedom: the first of them is utilitarianism, which establishes that the best action is the one that produces the greatest happiness and well-being for the greatest. The number of individuals involved; later, existentialism is presented, based on the being of man in the world. Both have certain differences in their ideas, but, in our opinion, neither of them is completely correct; For this reason, we have used them to develop our thinking about what freedom is and what it should be.

As for utilitarianism, John Stuart Mill, a 19th century English philosopher, establishes the idea of ​​freedom in a social or civil war, leaving aside what he calls “free will”; Thus, it guides us in the evolution of freedom over time, beginning in ancient civilizations, such as Rome, in which freedom was based on protection against the tyranny of political rulers, and that, later, this it would become the need for elective and temporary rulers; this would be one of the reasons why in the future the limitation of power would be forgotten.

In this way, he continues until he reaches his time, where he presents us with the practical man, a man who individually has freedom of conscience and has control over himself.
